WHEN WE FAIL TO FULL FILL OUR DREAMS

With my imagination I tried to sketch Manik Iraani. Please excuse me for not sketching properly because I just sketched it with my imagination .The more than 6 feet tall handsome Parsi man passed away some 10 years back. Many of us have forgotten him as he did not do any significant work in bollywood movies. He only played the role of a GUNDA & in all the movies he acted , you will find him in black trouser with a shining metallic belt ,sometimes without baniyaan on top & sometimes with red or black sleeveless baniyaan & last but not least a black colored leather band on his forehead .

One movie which I remembered , in which he acted was MASTKALANDAR staring DHARMENDRA & DIMPLE KAPADIA .In all the movies he had same role & mostly he never spoke . He just used to come out of drums, shows his biceps & than he used to smile. Finally he hits the main hero. He gives two three blows but than the hero beats him badly & breaks his bones. This is the role which he has done in all the movies .Although I have not seen him but people who had seen him say that he was a body builder & very tall & handsome guy but unfortunately he never got a decent role in bollywood, which he always desired. Yes Manik's ambition was to become a hero & not a Gunda.

With my brief description about MANIK IRANI by now many of you have sketched a picture of him in your mind. Coming back to my point. Manik Irani's dream was to become a hero but he never got the chance .When he failed in full filling his dreams one day he committed suicide .At a very young age he left all of us & his widow mother all alone.

Since Manik did not do any great work in bollywood, his death was not hyped by media & in fact no one missed him because there are many people who act as Gunda. However I came to know about his death from his friend FARHAAD. Farhaad used to work in our building . He one day told to my mother about Manik Iraani & about Manik Irani's mother who was that time earning her daily bread by selling petty things. Now I do not know what happened to Manik Irani's mother because it has already been more than 10 years.

Now this is not the story of Manik Irani alone. There are many people who when fail in fulfilling their ambitions restore to immature ways like committing suicide. It happens with each one of us in life when we get frustrated because of failure but it is not correct to commit suicide because there are people behind us who care & love us we should think about them first .Also time changes & one should keep trying luck till death.

I AM SURPRISED, that this event is so old, but the post is so new?! I just saw him in Kalicharan (playing a dump assassin), and wanted to check if he is related to Aruna Irani. Also to confirm news of his death. I am still looking for the answer to the former.
I fondly remember him in movies like Laparwah, where he is a kung fu figthing Cowbow against Mithun. He was also famous for his brief role in Mr. Natwarlal, (also in the role of a dumb assassin.)
We must also blame our directors and producers to not break stereotypes and be more creative.

May Manik Irani's Soul Rest in Peace. This is very unfortunate for a guy who acted in so many A grade films like Hero,Kalicharan,Mr Natwarlal,Purani Haveli,Amawas Ki Raat etc to have gone in this way. This is the ugly face of our Indian Film Industry where people are forgotten very fast and there are no welfare schemes for the Aging Actors and technicians who may not be in a good financial condition.I request the INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY to take steps in this regard and save Actors,Technicians and other junior artists who have contributed greatly to make Bollywood a worldwide phenomena.

Hey thanks for the post and nice sketch of Billa, Manik Irani urf Kalicharan ka goonga goon, urf Hero ka billa dada, urf Karma ka Goon, and many more, he has started his career as very side villain after that he got one scence fight scens with main lead actor, but did not become a main lead villain through out the career, billa was his famour name and most of the ppl knew him as Billa instead of Manik. He fought with all lead actors of 70-80 like Aby, Shotgun, Jeetu, Dharam, Jackie, Anil, Mithun, Rishi, Sunny, Sanjoo & Govinda.. he always fight in Basti, or ring or in Cycle stand...

Very unfortunate that Manik Irani died. I remember people indeed used to whistle on his appearance in theaters. I saw a great number of films involving him in theater. God bless his soul. I have heard that he was a very nice man who used to help many a people when he was active in film industry.

The best part of his acting was where he used to always say ghungroo while fighting in a film called Dadagiri.

It is very sad that the Industry does not take care of its family(?)(cause that's what they call themselves). Today I was watching Toofan(Amitabh) and saw Manek Irani in a small role.I just wanted to know his whereabouts. But it seems I made it a decade too late.Anyway,May his soul rest in peace. We will never forget you Manek.

I remember him in 1986. He used to live close by in Grant Road. One of my friends who knew him introduced me to him and since I had been visiting from abroad, Manek took me with him to see some shooting with Jackie Shroff where Manek was fight director. He introduced be to Jackie and I have a picture with him and Jackie. A very nice human being.

Was surprised to find out that many of them like manick, jack gaud, mahveer shah,Yusuf khan ,gain packatd r no longer with us. Such unforgettable characters, such lovely persons no longer with us. A great favourite of mine. People just remember him as the muscle man in 80s and 90s. But he was in films much earlier and was a slim weakling. He starred in some films in early 70s and looked like a teenager; we used to call him 'Square fighter' as his arms moved in 90s desgrees arcs all the time. I also heard romours that he was a stuntman as well and did lot of stunts for Amitab back then as they had similar bodies. as for his death - I heard various rumours, dying from alcoholism, car accident, dying whilst performing a stunt etc. But since he was not a A-list actor nobody reported his death and we can only rely on rumours.
He will be remembered as Billa.

He died while doing a stunt over sea as I had read from a news paper... People like him are salt of film industry who die untold...RIP Manik Irani!
